Sarah, from Stockton-On-Tees, sent in this great very hungry caterpillar idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

I cut up some toilet rolls into slices, glued them together to create the shape of the very hungry caterpillar. I glued parts of a pipe cleaner to create antennas and legs. I coloured chick peas and rice with paint. Added scoops and tongs to develop hand control and strength.

My children loved filling in the caterpillar. I hadn’t realised just how far all the grains of rice would go! It was messier than I thought!

Do you have any other projects planned?

To create some story stones for my children to use as a prompt to retell the story.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It’s been lovely to spend more time at home with them. It can be difficult at times but having crafts/activities to create has helped me.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Reach out to other parents when things aren’t going well because it’s highly likely they are going through something similar.

Has this website and community helped you?

Such a variety of different activities.
