Donna, from the UK, brings Julia Donaldson’s “The Room on the Broom” book to life, with this fun activity.

What did you do?

After reading the story The Room on the Broom I was inspired to recreate some of the fun with my daughter Sofia. I used The Room on the Broom Colouring Book cut out some pages then Sofia did bits of the story using a hand made broomstick from sticks and out of cardboard drawing around her hands for the bottom of the broomstick.

What you will need:

  • The Room on the Broom colouring book, by Julia Donaldson
  • scissors
  • cardboard
  • butterfly clips/staple
  • pens/paint

Instructions:

Creating the broomstick we used cardboard, cutting out a straight length to represent the stick, and for the bottom, my daughter’s hands matched the size of the broom base, so I traced her hands on the cardboard and cut it out and stapled it to the broomstick.

Pages taken out of the colouring book made it easy for my daughter to reenact that part of the book with her new broomstick.

Any tips to help others do this?

A simple idea and craft for encouraging reading and writing.
