Elkie, from Scotland, shares her fire, earth, air and water craft with us. Let’s take a look…
What did you do?
This activity was designed to teach my kids about the 4 elements of water, fire, earth and air.
I wrote each word down on an A4 piece of paper and drew a (questionable!) picture corresponding to the word.
I provided paint and cotton buds with the intention of the kids using the cotton buds to ‘dot’ along the letters to complete the word.
This would help with fine motor skills and promote letter recognition.
Unfortunately, the following of the letters did not go to plan! I think I left this too late in the day to try.
However, they did have fun painting with the cotton buds and we did learn about primary/secondary colours and colour mixing.
Do you have any other projects planned?
I made salt dough for the first time yesterday and now I plan to paint them into ladybirds. I have 10 ‘ladybirds’ and will add spots on each one to help with counting 1-10.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Elkie and I am a mum of 2 based in Scotland. My eldest is almost 4 and my youngest is 2.

How are you finding being housebound so far?
My husband and I are both trying to work from home so it’s been a bit of a struggle!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
If you are pushed for time, don’t commit yourself to anything that will take a lot of clean up!
Has this website and community helped you?
I think it’s a great way to support parents with ideas for coping with lockdown.
