Deborah, from Singapore, sent in this great straw painting idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
1. Draw an image of your kid (you can also print his/her photo).
2. Drip a few drops of paint (mixed with a bit of water) around the head.
3. Use a straw and start blowing at the paint on the paper in any direction you desire.
There you go! You’ve got a colourful messy hair art piece that would brighten up anyone’s day.
We loved the colours and creativity that comes with it. My kid got tired of blowing with the straw midway through and started flinging the paper around. But oh boy, I must say, the end effect was the same! Talk about creativity and taking short cuts 🙂
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
Hello, I’m Deborah from Singapore. I’ve two young ones, ages 3 and 1. We love doing simple STEAM play at home and hope to empower busy parents to learn and play together with their kids using everyday materials at home.

Do you have any tips for other parents?
Imagination is key. You don’t need to have a huge stash of materials at home. We love working with whatever materials we can find at home and let our children take the lead in designing their play. We also find a lot of inspiration from the many amazing accounts that we follow on instagram, including @houseboundwithkids!
What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?
Our kids are still quite young to appreciate board/card games, but we do a lot of open-ended play like with blocks and magna-tiles!
What are your children’s favourite books?
Dear Zoo, The Tiger who came to Tea, Oh Dear!, the Spot series, Usbourne Lift the Flap series.
What toys would you recommend to other parents?
Blocks, Lego, Magnetic Tiles for endless open-ended play
