Helen, from St Albans, thought of this great spray painting original art pieces idea to keep her kids occupied and happy. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
As my kids are both teenagers I was looking for something that would inspire them that they could do on their own. Teenagers aren’t keen on parental intervention!
I ordered some basic white stretched canvases, and a variety of neon coloured spray paints. Then we picked a warm day (spray paint needs to be done outdoors on a day with no wind) and they got to work. Both of them loved having the freedom to suit themselves with their art – and both pieces are up on their walls!
We discovered that you really need a mask and goggles for spray painting – the Covid19 masks came in handy here! We also moved the art creation to the bottom of the garden quite quickly after we realised that the garden furniture was getting a bit of art too.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I’m Helen, a parenting blogger from Hertfordshire, in the UK. I’ve been blogging about my family for 9 years on my award-winning blog Actually Mummy. These days it’s all about parenting older kids, as mine are 15 and 13. They don’t get any easier, but they are incredible company if you can navigate everything peacefully!
How are you finding being housebound so far?
For me it’s not so bad as our school have been brilliant at sending resources to the kids to keep them pretty much on timetable. And having older children is a blessing right now – my two are both good at making sure they complete their work. I can’t imagine how relentless it feels when you have to home school too.
Really, most of the stress here is for my kids. The lockdown has hit teenagers hard, as they can’t be with their friends at an age where they’re really in need of social contact. What teenager wants to hang out with their parents all day?!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
I honestly think keeping a routine of some kind is essential – for everyone. And getting out of the house once a day is crucial to us. We all need a bit of space and time to ourselves.
