Tracy, from Northampton in the UK, let her toddler’s imagination run wild with this rainbow spaghetti.

What did you do?

Rainbow coloured spaghetti. You can do this activity indoors or outdoors in the garden.

You will need:

  • Spaghetti – for the rainbow (i used one bag).
  • Food Coloring
  • I used my daughter’s tea sets (she has lots). You could use bits from kitchen wooden spoons plastic bowls or other plastic toys your little one might have.
  • Ziplock freezer bags or sandwich bags.

Instructions:

  1. Boil Spaghetti for 12 mins with a little bit of olive/vegetable oil.
  2. Once cooked, tip into a colander.
  3. Run the spaghetti under the cold tap in the colander and let the water drain out (make sure the spaghetti is cold – run your fingers through it to check).
  4. Shake any excess water and place spaghetti into the bag and add food coloring (few drops will generally do, but if you want a stronger color just add a few more drops).
  5. While the spaghetti is in the bag, rub and move the spaghetti around as the spaghetti will get better coverage of color. If you like you can also add a little bit of oil again as spaghetti can go sticky (i found it worked better with more oil).
  6. Tip the spaghetti out onto a tray covered with kitchen towel. This will drain off the excess fluid.
  7. Let the spaghetti dry for about an hour, or so.
  8. Place or setup your tuff tray and let the fun begin 🙂 my little girl loves to walk all over it with bare feet.

Hi, I am Tracy, I am a stay a home mummy to our beautiful little daughter who is 2.5 years old. I work evenings and weekend mornings and I am currently studying EYFS course and working towards Forestry School for tots. I love and enjoy very much thinking up things to create for our little girl to keep her entertained. She totally loves to join in helping me to make them & enjoys playing with what we have created 🙂

What do you have planned next?

I just started painting my kitchen table & chairs some fabulous colors bright colors which make me smile. Also, we love to create rice trays. We are doing them weekly. Our third week is coming up and we are going to do Lily Bobtail, from Peter Rabbit.

How are you finding being housebound?

Being housebound has been fine. I facetime our family daily & talk to/facetime our close friends too. I think the biggest thing is losing our routine & not having our freedom as before, but you get used to changes. But me, my hubby & our beautiful daughter are making memories as a family – ‘my world’ and ‘staying safe’

Any tips?

  • Plan ahead, think about what you have at home and what you can do the next day.
  • If your little one only plays with what is created for a short while, just leave it out. They will go back to it.
  • Have a little time for you (if you can). I like to craft (decoupage). My hubby has always done the bedtime routine, so then its time to get crafting 🙂

What do you think of Housebound with Kids?
It has been fantastic, it’s great to see other creations & its also great sharing ours with others. It’s also fab to see what you’re able to make from just stuff that you have a home. I now tell my hubby “don’t put that in the recycling” – we can make something out of that, only the other day we made an old milk paper carton into an owl 😉
