Jodie, from Derby, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

To create a happy lockdown memory with your children is really simple. you can All you need is – A camera or phone, a Rainbow background, good lighting and your happy, excited little ones. If you don’t have a camera, your smart phone can achieve just as good pictures. The background can be a picture drawn/painted by your children, wallpaper or a rainbow backdrop. Position the backdrop near a window to get the most light possible. Get the children involved and make it a really fun activity that they will enjoy. Let them lead the shoot and do what they feel natural doing. The best photos of children are them smiling and laughing and having fun. Let them choose their outfits and feel excited prior to the shoot. Happy shooting xx

I loved getting the children involved and getting them to show off their rainbow pictures they had drawn. Make sure they are well fed and not hungry, plus use snacks to keep them smiling, I find after lunch the best time for my children.
If they are not feeling it or having a grumpy day, stop the shoot and try another day, you want happy memories not grumpy memories. Keep showing the children the pictures you’ve taken so they know what they look like and this will keep them involved. Let them play and be natural and just keep clicking away. You will get a much better result than asking them to sit and smile. Enjoy it, if your not enjoying they won’t be either. xx

Do you have any other projects planned?

I would like to do a ‘end of Lockdown’ shoot with celebrations and lots of friends and family.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Jodie and live in Derby with my husband Matt and 2 children, Heidi age 6 and Oscar age 4. I am a Midwife and also do photography specialising in newborn and young children. I have been very busy in my main job as a Midwife over lockdown but have really missed doing my photoshoots with all my babies. I can’t wait to get back to my photography as soon as I can. But for now I’ll make the most of family time and taking lots of pictures of my two little munchkins.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

As I am a Midwife I have still been working as normal in my local hospital lots of hours and shifts. When I am not working I have absolutely loved spending more time than ever with my family. I’ve tried to look at the positive side of things in this really hard situation and enjoyed this time we can never get back. I have loved not doing the school run and being able to do lots family things that in ‘normal’ life we just don’t have time to do.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Stay strong and stay happy. There will be bad and hard days but that’s OK. If you need a film and pyjama day that’s OK. Let the children play, be happy and enjoy all this extra family time they will never have again.

Has this website and community helped you?

It’s a great way to get some brilliant ideas, especially on the days you have completely run our of things to do.
