Debbie, from Kent, created this great tool for her daughter, Eden, to help her understand the concept of “social distancing”. Read on…
What did you do?
“Social distancing rainbow feet markers”
Create rainbow feet markers to help your children understand social distancing.
Draw around their feet or shoes and get them to colour and decorate them however they would like!
Write the name of the child/children so they know when placed on the floor where to stand when social distancing with friends and family.
We used a laminator but you could place yours inside a plastic wallet or just use cardboard.
This worked so well for us when Eden met her grandparents for the very first time during lockdown. We practiced at home that morning. She was so excited to stand on her rainbow feet when we got there and it really helped her visually understand how far away she should be. As you can see she is rainbow obsessed, and we love the meaning of a rainbow!
What is next?
As an arty Mum, my next project is to run a local competition to get some local prints by children and adults printed on to tea towels of our village to raise funds for the NHS.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
My name is Debbie from Kent UK, our daughter Eden is 3. My partner Marcus is from Canada and a school teacher.
I lost my job, and had the virus myself at the start of April, whilst recovering I decided to start up a village art window group with a fellow local artist which really kept me going.
Since then I have also started a village Corona stone snake, and we have painted many pictures for local nursing homes. Staying creative is what has got us through as an arty family.
Do you have any top tips to share with other parents?
My top tip is to create a craft box and a home schooling box the night before, I find it really takes the stress away planning the crafts for the day. I use pinterst and forums for my ideas, and I try to use household items and recyclables there is so much you can make with items at home!
What do you think of the Housebound With Kids community?
It’s a wonderful place to share ideas, a great supportive community!
