Charlotte makes this great photo keepsake using used wet wipe plastic flaps. Let’s see more…
What did you do?
We made it using everything that we already had at home.
We first started collecting the wet wipe packet plastic flaps. Once we finished with a wet wipe pack we just pulled off the flap and kept them to one side.
Secondly, we found photos of all our family members – as our 2-year-old little girl (Evelyn) misses her family so much.
We used the wet wipe packet flap as a template and cut around our photos (making sure we got everyone’s faces in the section of the flap that you will be able to see).
Once we collected enough flaps, we used an old cardboard box lid to glue it all down. First we glued the photos down with pritt stick and then we glued the flaps down using super glue to make sure they didn’t come off when they were opened and closed. Earlier, we had tried to glue the flaps down with PVA glue but our daughter managed to pull them off (unintentionally) quite quickly.
What is next on the list of things to try?
Our next project is to utilize some old wooden boards we have, to glue gun our daughters colour puzzle onto as she keeps loosing some of the pieces. Doing this will make it easier for her to locate the correct colour and not loose so many pieces… Hopefully!
Tell us a little about yourself…
Me and my husband live together, along with our 2-year-old little girl, Evelyn Olivia! My name is Charlotte (22) and my husband is Matthew (29).
As difficult as it is being at home and being away from our families, we are trying to embrace the extra family time we are able to have. Me and my husband work alternating hours (he works 6 days, I work evenings and weekends so often we are ships passing in the night). However lockdown has meant we have been able to eat breakfast and dinner as a family, something that rarely happened due to our shifts before. It’s meant we have finally been able to complete our garden project and have been able to spend so many enjoyable days playing at home as a family. When this is over and it is safe to go out again we will be going down to be reunited with my family who live in Cornwall.
Do you have any tips to help other parents?
My biggest tip to people at home with children is to set yourself a little routine for the day, it doesn’t have to be strict and you won’t always be able to stick to it but I find structure helps both the parents and the children to get through the day.
Has the Housebound with Kids community helped you?
Housebound with kids has helped us to come up with new, easy and fun ideas to help us to keep the family entertained. The ideas are simple and often you have everything you need right at home already!
