Rhiannon, from Kent in the UK, tells us how her husband made this fantastic wine rack out of a disused wooden pallet.
Tell us about it…
My husband made this wine rack from an old pallet that we had hanging around. We had seen some lovely wine rack creations online, so he decided to have a go.
How did you make the wine rack?
First you need to find the right pallet for the job – de-nail and carefully remove any unwanted bits and set aside for re-use. He saved all the old nails which he straightened and re-used.
Once he had the blank canvas he built on it in sections – measuring out spaces for bottles. He looked at lots of different designs online which helped! Find a pallet that lends itself to the project you want to do,
Tips to help you to build your own are:
- Take your time and don’t rush through it. You don’t want to be undoing all your work!
- For any cuts, holes etc do a test on another piece of wood beforehand.
- Pallet wood has a tendency to split, so glue and clamp before drilling and nailing.
What’s next for you all?
My husband is working on a spice rack at the moment – sorry no photos yet!
Tell us a little bit about yourselves…
My name is Rhiannon. My husband is Del. We have 6-year-old twins and live in Kent in the UK.
Lockdown has been interesting to say the least! We are all doing our best to get through the days as best we can the same as everybody else. I think the hardest thing has been not being able to see family members and the kids missing their school friends.
Any tips for others?
The only tips I’d have really is just to not put too much pressure on yourself as parents, it’s hard enough without the parental guilt. You can only do your best!
We have loved seeing all the creations online and it’s definitely given us lots of ideas, the wine rack has turned out really well. I hope it’s given people some inspiration to have a go themselves!
