What did you do?

Firstly, we made octonaut gups out of playdough- we focussed on them being symmetrical- after doing earlier work on symmetry. Then we took them on an adventure on a large octonaut under the sea map I had drawn out. Before starting, we recapped left and right, and learned compass directions. The map also had coordinates on as we’d previously learned this. The boys were given instructions (e.g north 2, west 4) and then had to write the coordinate they landed on, and the place name. We then extended it to them giving the instructions for me to move the gup.

You could do the same activity and change it to whatever theme your children are interested in. You could adapt for younger children by doing up, down, forwards, backwards etc

Try to stick to a routine as much as possible
Try to use their interests to make them want to take part in learning activities more
