Sarah, from Stockton-on-Tees, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
Using 20 slate stones I painted the numbers 1-10 and then painted dots to represent the numbers 1-10. This was to help with number recognition. My child then matched the dots to the correct number.
I have been able reuse these rocks by hiding the dotted rocks in homemade sand for my child to dig up and then match. This kept her more engaged than just matching I found. It’s a really simple set up and has seemed to help her number recognition.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Sarah. I have a five year old and a three year old. I live in the north east.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
It can be hard at times balancing work, home school and play but I have really enjoyed having such a big role in their learning and seeing their development.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Sometimes you just have to write a day off. The activities don’t work well or the learning isn’t going the way you planned and there’s nothing wrong with just deciding to have a quiet day and restart again tomorrow.
Has being part of our community helped you?
