Kym and family, from Derbyshire, sent in this epic Nerf gun war idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
We decided to go to war! We made a sign asking the children to ‘Choose their weapons’. We then laid all the guns down, placed bowls of ‘ammo’ (nerf gun bullets) around the house and made various army barracks from tables, chairs and settee cushions.
We each took our position and fired at each other for 3 hours! Everyone should wear protective goggles or swimming goggles if you don’t have the correct nerf gun protection (my partner and I wore sunglasses/normal glasses).
We played army music in the background and switched teams, guns and barracks often! We also made sure we had plenty of water to drink as it was a good work out! We all had really good fun, although there was some very minor casualties!
The kids all argued, although they do anyway! We also realised some guns were more powerful than others, which gave an unfair advantage! We will be investing in lots more guns for next time! Great work out for parents and the kids were thoroughly tired out which was a nice bonus!
Do you have any other projects planned?
When the weather is better, we would love to take the battle outside for round 2!
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Kym, I have 3 children aged 7, 9 and 12 and I’m from the UK.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
I have just started back at work as I am a Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant, so my children are now back at school. However, I have loved spending more time with them while we have been at home. We have done lots of craft activities, been on lots of ‘safari’ walks and lots of bike rides whilst the weather was nice!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Don’t worry too much about home learning, just have fun!
Has being part of our community helped you?
It’s great to have lots of new ideas and share with parents in the same position!
