Lucy, from Essex, had fun making messy cupcakes. Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

I made messy cupcakes. This activity can be used with either:
•Shaving Foam
•Hair Mousse
•Soap foam (or similar)

Other products needed:
•sprinkles
•household utensils of choice
•cupcake cases & tray
•Tuff Tray (like this one here)
• I used hair mousse (No shaving foam at The time) & I just sprinkled some cake decorations on top.

This activity is a really fun way of getting your child touching different substances & allowing them to explore with real home utensils in an inviting way. Something I always try to do Implement in my messy/sensory play activities.

This focuses on sensory development and is also great for fine motor skills, understanding the world & creative development.

This was my first time using hair mousse instead of shaving foam and I liked the way it expanded in the cases and the tray. However, I wasn’t keen on how quickly it fizzled down, especially when adding the sprinkles on top.

I would also probably use silicon cake cases instead of the paper ones next time as they didn’t hold very well.

Next time I would also add a range of more utensils to scoop and mix with.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I’m currently doing lots with play dough to continued to encourage my son’s sensory experiences.
My next one using some banana play dough I have made, I will be setting up a bumble-bee tray.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I have enjoyed my time at home with my boy But have missed play dates and meeting up with close friends and family.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Try to plan the day & keep positive. However do not be hard on yourself, each day is a blessing & whatever you need to do to get through these really hard times, then do it. Each the chocolate, watched the tv, have all the cuddles and wear your pjs all day.

Has this website and community helped you?

I think it’s a great idea and so positive for Mums and parents alike.
