Katy from South Wales makes this lovely lolly stick fairy house with her 2 kids…
Instructions:
- You can use a piece of fairly flat wood to stick them onto, or just join the sticks together at the back with glue or tape.
- Do a line of sticks going across first, then add the roof ones second.
- You could use straws, matchsticks or even pipe cleaners.
- Once the house is stuck, decorate as you see fit (use feathers, beads, glitter, flowers, etc).
- Create a door using card or plastic and hang wherever you want fairies to live. If making one for the garden, use plastic for the door not cardboard and if using pens use permanent ones.
Do you have any tips for others making this?
We used our hot glue gun to fix everything together as it was going outside, but you could use craft wood glue. We also made sure to attach some string at the top to hang it.
Tell the community a bit about yourself…
Katy, from South Wales. Two children age 3 and 10.
How are you finding being housebound with kids so far?
Hard at times, but enjoying some of the positives that are coming from it. Have learned some new skills and enjoying our extra time together.
Any tips to help people when they are housebound with kids?
Variety where possible. Encourage them to use their imagination… e.g. a cardboard box can become a rocket, car, car park, den.
When doing chores, involve them where possible eg matching socks for the little ones, more practical skills for the older ones. Do a reward system for if they help.
Has the Housebound with Kids community helped?
It’s shown me loads of new ideas that I hadn’t tried with my kids yet. Particularly science-based.
