Claire, from Cheshire, sent in this great lockdown festival idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
All our planned festivals have been canceled this year so my husband wanted to make it special for the kids and bring a festival to our back garden! He is a sign maker by trade, so made the festival signs, we bought a simple projector, borrowed a laptop and set it up. The kids wanted to dress up as members of the band Kiss, as they would have been headlining and it would have been the first time seeing them. We still had Halloween face paint left so did a simple design, put on some rock clothes, and headed out… Into the garden.
We were unsure about the weather, so put a gazebo up and then zip-tied some tarpaulin to the side for a bit more protection. We had an offcut of carpet and modular couch which we were fortunate to be able to carry outside. We had to use the laptop until it was dark enough to be able to use the projector.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I’m Claire and we live in the UK. The kids have been brought up on music and went to their first festival when they were 1 and 3 (now 6 and 9). We’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere and introducing them to new music and experiences.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
Being in lockdown has been hard work for us all trying to balance school and work but it has also allowed us to slow down. We’re not rushing to clubs or rushing to eat tea, we’re actually eating healthier and all together and have been fortunate to enjoy some amazing weather and we have learned to appreciate things/people/places more which is an amazing life lesson for the kids at the end of all this.
