Tell us about your idea
Little ones love using scissors- it makes them feel very grown up! This activity is a fun way to practise those tricky scissors skills!
YOU NEED:
Toilet roll tubes (or kitchen roll!)
Paper / tissue paper / wool
Pens
Toddler scissors
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
Cutting skills
Fine motor skills
Speech and language
IDEAS:
I gave each toilet roll person a different emotion so that we could chat about emotions whilst we played! This is a hot topic for a 2 and a half year old!!!!
I modelled how to welcome the client over and we had some hair dresser chit chat! He loved the role play!
He sometimes gets a bit frustrated with scissors and asks me to do it but I found with this he didn’t and I think that was because there was a purpose to this cutting activity….he wanted to make them bald!
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
Hello! I’m Abbie and I’m a stay at home mum. I have Bobby who is 2 and Grace who is 1……there is only a 15 months age gap between them!!! Before children I was a primary school teacher for 7 years and I always taught Year 2! I love setting up simple play and craft activities for my two which don’t take much preparation or resources but which they enjoy and learn from! My aim is to play alongside them and then sneak off for a hot cuppa… It doesn’t always work but I keep trying!

How are you finding being housebound so far?
I have learnt that it’s ok to take things slower and not always be rushing to get out of the house and busy busy busy! I hope that I remember this when lockdown is all over!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Keep it simple! Try to not put pressure on yourself! Speak to other mums as we are all in similar situations!
