Read this article to learn how to create your own beautiful painted rock people. You can then interchange rocks to create new outfits and looks for them.

Thanks to Claire, from Saltaire, who sent in this great painted rock idea. Let’s take a look at it…

How do you make them?

You need to collect or purchase some suitable stones.
*I used Small Scottish cobbles
Wash them and let fully dry ahead of time.
Base your rock with white acrylic paint and let dry.
Draw on your design.
Colour in with acrylic paint or paint pens.
Once dry seal with varnish so you can use outside and in messy play.

This is a tactile and creative play that you can make together with your child.

Photo of rocks that have been painted. there are two rocks with women's faces on. the other rocks are painted with outfit and shoe designs on.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I personally paint story stones for children and I make learning resources. I love the ideas parents and teachers bring me to make come to life.

Rock painting is something I do for my me time and I like to come up with and share new ideas for others to make and play with.
