Here is a great game to play with your children if they have chicken pox (or even if they don’t). The chicken pox colour match activity is also useful as a colour recognition activity idea.

Thanks to Emma, from the UK, who sent in this great chicken pox colour match game idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

You will need an outline shape of a person. Draw different colour dots on the shape. Then ask your child simply match up the colours to dot stickers.

My son called this chicken pox man as it reminded him of when I covered his favourite toy in dot stickers when he had the chicken pox. It really cheered him up.

I think this would be an ideal activity to do with your child if they have chicken pox to make it not seem so bad after all.

I liked that it took about two minutes for me to set up and it reinforced colour recognition.

A photo of a white cardboard man cut out with coloured dots on. Next to blue, red, yellow, green and orange stickers. Next to that is a white rabbit toy with red and white circular dots on.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Take activities all over the house or into the garden if you have one. Just changing the room helps change things up a bit! My go to items are playdough and paper plates as you can make almost anything from them.

What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?

My children are a little young for board games but they like doing puzzles and my eldest son likes to play snap.

What are your children’s favourite books?

My children love any Julia Donaldson book. My youngest son really likes ‘Please Mr Panda’ by Steve Antony.

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

I recommend buying figures for imaginative play and creating small world scenes to aid your child’s imagination.
