San, from Hong Kong, shows us this fantastic homemade water sprinkler idea. Whether you need to water the plants, or water the kids – San has a cost-effective and fun answer! Let’s take a look…
Things you need:
- 1 old empty plastic bottle which is soft enough to poke holes through it. I used a big Volvic water bottle.
- Tiny screwdriver (the smaller, the better),
- Duct tape
- Scissors
- Outdoor water hose
Step by step guide:
(Please ask an adult to help)
- Use the screwdriver to make holes in the bottle. The more holes the better as more water will come out of it.
- Put the hose into the bottle.
- Cut a piece of duck tape to close the opening of the bottle. You may need to cut a few pieces to ensure no water comes out from the opening.
- Turn on the water to test it (low pressure). If no water comes out of the opening then you can put full pressure on and it will now work like a sprinkler.
Ensure to test the water before you attach it, as the water can be really hot if the hose has been in the sun. We want to avoid any burns!
What do you have planned for your next project?
My next project is to build a decking out of wooden pallets, whether it will turn out OK or not we shall see
Tell the community a bit about yourself…
My name: San, originally from Hong Kong but born in Sweden and I have a daughter who has just turned 8.
It has been tough as I am working full-time from home. Trying to manage that as well as homeschooling and keep my daughter entertained, there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Remember you don’t ALWAYS have to do something physical, sometimes it is enough just to watch a movie with your children, or teach them to make a meal when you are making lunch/dinner (my one especially loves helping out to bake a cake!)
Has the Housebound WIth Kids community helped?
There are so many great ideas that I have never thought of. It will be great doing some of the experiments with my daughter which I think she will love!
