Lynne, from Scotland, shows us how to make an arcade game at home. Lets find out more…
What did you do?
My son loves the claw machines in arcades, etc, so my husband suggested making one of his own! Here’s how to make it:
1. I bought some plastic eggs from Amazon and filled them with small toys. I put money in some so my little boy could win some more turns!
2. Put the eggs in a box/tub and add some extra objects- how many is up to you, taking into account how old your child is and how difficult you want to make it. I added some acorns so my son wouldn’t win every time and some tissue paper and pipe cleaners to make it more colourful.
3. Get a claw! I used one from a PJ Masks Romeo’s Lab toy but anything your child can use to grab the eggs will work.
4. If you want to add an educational aspect to it, get some coins and get your child to “pay” for their turns!
Making the box look as colourful as possible really helped my little boy become interested in the activity. If I tried it again, I think I’d like to use a smaller tub and try to create a slot machine for the money, to make it more authentic!
Do you have any other projects planned?
I usually let my little boy lead his learning so it just depends where his interests take us!

How are you finding being housebound so far?
It’s gotten much easier as the weeks have gone on. My little boy seems happier and more confident than he has in a long time- it’s been lovely to have this extra time together.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Even if the day has a thousand negatives, focus on the one positive thing that happened- even if it’s a small one, like a warm cup of tea!
Has this website and community helped you?
It’s given me lots of ideas for activities to try with my son!
