Kelly, from Nottingham, has an created an art gallery at home… amazing!

What did you do?

During lockdown we have looked at different artists and produced work in their style. We have displayed these around our hallway with labels like a proper gallery. Our local area has an art week every year, we produced lots of rainbows based on the style of different artists and displayed them in our front windows for the community to see.

At the end of the week we held a private view just for the 5 of us. We had drinks and canapés before looking at and discussing our art work. The kids provided some entertainment (magic, singing, dancing) then we had an award ceremony. Lots of fun and all done with materials we had at home or could add to our weekly shopping list.

My children are 9, 7 & 4 so I had to think carefully about what they were all capable of. Sometimes this meant my 4 year old maybe having a colouring sheet of a famous art work rather than making her own. Simple pieces were the most effective. The Kandinsky worked well and my 4 year old used painted rainbows to cut up and rearrange in the style of Picasso. It was good to use a range of material for variety

Do you have any other projects planned?

Our next idea is to make a bug house in the garden.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Generally we have found it a positive experience. I’m very lucky as not working has allowed me to turn my attention to the children during these strange times

Do you have any tips for other parents?

I have found organisation important and it allows activities to run more smoothly but you also need to go with the flow a bit especially if someone is having an off day. I’ve throw away very little during lockdown keeping hold of lots of recycling for our next project even if I didn’t know what that would be.

Has this website and community helped you?

It is a very bright and friendly resource.
