Geni, from Stirling, gave her 1-year-old a rainbow birthday. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
My baby turned 1 recently and so, it had to be rainbow theme. The cake and bake tray, I are homemade, as a healthy alternative so he could have as much as he wanted. No sugar, just honey to sweeten the sponge and loads of fruits.
His big brothers ( 3 and 6 y.o.) loved decorating the window and helping out with the cake baking.
In all, I think we spent £15, in balloons and ingredients for the cakes, and using as much stuff we had in the house to top up the day.
Started the previous afternoon with the paper chains, rainbow balloons in the evening and cakes in the day.
A tired mummy, but we’ll worth it, as the kids loved it!
Taking the time to do it all ourselves was lovely. It meant we all had a go at something. My oldest did most of the rainbow window display with coloured paper chains. Him and his brother loved getting messy with baking the cakes, decorating them with all the different coloured fruits and dipping into the freshly whipped cream!
Not using auger in the cake made it ideal for my baby, so he had as much cake as he felt like!
Do you have any other projects planned?
I have a few things around the house I want to try to recycle into something else and/or upcycle. But I haven’t found the time to really get to do much. 3 kids so young and at so different stages, keep me busy all day.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Eugenia, but my close friends and family call me Geni. I’m from Spain and live in Stirling, Scotland with my husband Kevyn and my 3 sons: Scott (6), Pablo (3) and Carlos (1, the birthday boy)
How are you finding being housebound so far?
It’s a mixture of feelings. Some days I feel very blessed and grateful to have been given the time to all slow down and spend so much time together… Other days, I’m so overwhelmed, that I want to go upstairs and shut the door. These are very challenging times. For everyone. Having kids in lockdown obviously has its pros and cons. At the end of the day, no matter how the days as gone, I try to cherish the special moments of that day.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Don’t plan anything. Just take the day as it comes, one at a time. Of you can’t cope with school work, working from home, housework, cooking, etc… Just drop whatever you need to keep your sanity and your kids happy and safe.
Has being part of our community helped you?
I love the realisation that we are all going through the same situation, at the same time, and we like to refer to the community to share our achievements in this difficult times.
