Kate, from Birmingham, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
“Now my tummy is beginning to rumble, my favourite food is Gruffalo Crumble!”
We made gruffalo crumble using porridge oats and different coloured play dough for the eyes, poisonous wart and purple prickles. We added white pebbles for teeth and used scoops for fine motor practise.
We loved this activity and P stayed engaged for the longest time! It was simple and easy to set up and tidy away, and there was enough variation for it to be immediately captivating. We did use the play dough again the next day but it wasn’t as smooth with the porridge oats in and didn’t keep as long.

Do you have any other projects planned?
I have a few projects for the summer holidays. I want to create a busy board and small world table tops from cable drums for my new classroom in September!

How are you finding being housebound so far?
I have loved being at home with P over lockdown! It has given me precious time with her that I thought I would never have again after maternity leave finished. I have loved finding ideas on Instagram and trying things out for ourselves! Quality Mommy and Daughter time!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Follow your child’s interests, don’t be afraid of mess and use social media to inspire ideas!
