Russell, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
Our smallest child has just turned 12 months old and sitting in the garden with him is a nightmare as he loves to do everything that he shouldn’t, our garden is huge so its a constant task picking him up and setting him down somewhere safe to play which left us unable to sit down for over a minute. We tried playpens and he would scream unless we sat in them with him, as they were all tiny it didn’t work too well. We built this so the whole family would have somewhere to sit and our toddler could play safely whilst we relaxed and the older children could use the rest of the garden.
We just finished this today and so good so far, we managed to sit in the sun and the little one was happy pottering around in front of us. The total price of this project t was £39.98 which bought paint and bamboo screens, the rest was uncalled materials
Do you have any other projects planned?
Our next project is to build a pergola to add to this.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Russell and my wife is Kym. We have 5 children, ages 1, 3, 5, 8 & 9.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
Its not been so bad for me as I have had to work throughout this pandemic, however I really feel for my wife as she has been virtually housebound whilst trying to entertain 5 children, she has done an amazing job. A nice thing is that our kids love to play with each other.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Let them get messy , don’t worry about the small things and if you’re doing a project then get them involved. Our 8 year old girl has loved using all of the tools to build this to the extent that she has asked for her own tool kit
Has being part of our community helped you?
I’m quite new to this but I will be looking for inspirational ideas.
