Anne, from Stonehouse in Scotland, got the bunting and other party theme items out at the front of her house. And why not! Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
We decorated our house and front garden in the theme of friends sitcom for our gala day where our youngest was junior maid.
All the things pictured were made from items you have lying about the house: cardboard, newspapers, tinfoil, masking tape, pva glue, glue guns. Each item can take days to make as they are made or coated with paper mache and then require a few layers, painted and then sealed again with pva glue. We had used chalk pens to write on some things. We did test boards first to see the effect. We found that if using chalk pens on acrylic paint, spray hairspray over what you have done first, let it dry and then coat it in pva glue. This helps seal it first and prevents the chalk pen running. But always test it first.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Anne. I have two girls, Amy who’s eleven and Rebecca who’s Eight. We stay in Stonehouse in Scotland.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
I’m still working, so get the occasional break. But my partner has been with them 24/7. It’s been a rollercoaster. You find yourself Putting on many hats throughout the day and taking on many roles. One minute you’re teacher, then the next you’re back to mum or dad. Then it can be agony aunt, negotiator, entertainer, friend.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Just go with the flow. Everyone in your household needs their own breathing space. If you are struggling with schoolwork set out by the school, Or if they are losing interest in what’s been set for them, make household tasks learning. For instance, turn helping you bake into maths by helping set temperatures and work out measurements etc. Just remember do something each day that’s fun and look after your own well-being also.
Has being part of our community helped you?
It’s great for picking up ideas of things to do.
