Nitisha and family, from Bolton, UK, created this gorgeous family sunset 3d tree craft. Take a look at how they did it…
What did you do?
We used a mixture of medium on a canvas board, such as: acrylic paints, pastels, thin and thick paintbrushes, lots of different coloured card card and tissue paper cut up into random leaf-like shapes and glue of course.
We had some plain wooden butterflies which we painted using acrylics and then stuck on to the painting when it was dry. We wanted a bright almost rainbow tree and those are the colours we used.
You can change your theme to be of certain colours of maybe an autumn scene with autumnal leaves to suit you.
Draw your scene out first in pencil so you have an idea how it will work.
The pencil tends to be covered up by the paint/leaves so won’t be seen afterwards.
Do your tree trunk, use different shades of green acrylic paint and a thin brush to DAB vertically to represent grass and a few random flicks up for scattered long blades of grass.
Use a very watery brush with a tiny bit of paint for the sunset colours and gently blend them across the sky part.
Paint in your ‘family’ and then start randomly sticking down one end of the leaves in the direction that they would grow on a tree but randomly angled.
Glue these over each other’s in different colours to make ‘layers’ that will give your tree the 3-D look and feel. Layer as much or as little as you like.
We added our wooden butterflies at the end after we had painted them and they had dried. You actually could paint butterflies on, or birds etc. I wanted to add another 3-D dimension so chose to stick these on.
You could add all sorts of other things to these. There are many types of butterflies or flowers for crafts that can be found in craft shops. Some are jeweled, foam, Perspex, wooden etc. Choose something that suits the theme of your picture.
Tell the community a bit about yourselves…
My name is Nitisha and I live in Bolton, England with my hubby Ravi and two children Ruhaan (10) and Mia (nearly 6).
How are you finding being housebound with kids so far?
We have found lockdown to be a time where we’ve had lots of quality time together and plenty of time to try new things. We do school work and then time to bake, cook, play, watch movies, bike rides, exercise, walking etc.
Any tips to help people when they are housebound with kids?
Just take each day as it comes. Some days we’re all full of beans and others we feel as flat as pancakes but main thing is to make sure the kids are happy and in turn that will keep you happy and sans. Remember, learning happens in many ways. Through play, household chores, DIY, walking and exploring the outdoors etc.
Has the HWK community been useful for you?
Gives me lots of ideas and I like seeing what different people have been up to.
