Brydie, from Bristol, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
We used melon halves to make boats and grapes/cocktail sticks to make little people. The masts we made from bamboo skewers and cabbage/orange halves. We saved all the scraped out fruit for breakfast smoothies.
After we’d sailed our boats in the stream we took them apart and buried the wooden cocktail sticks/skewers so they could decompose safely without an animal/person treading on them, then we left the fruit in the undergrowth for the bugs and birds.
They worked really well and the children enjoyed playing with them. One thing to mention would be to supervise when they put the masts in as if you push to hard you’ll make a hole and they’ll keep sinking!
Do you have any other projects planned?
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Brydie and I have four children aged 11,9,4&2. We currently live in Bristol Uk
How are you finding being housebound so far?
We’re enjoying spending lots of time together and having a nice rest from school/pre school runs and all the other places we are usually trying to get to in the week
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Try and be kind to yourself, you can’t amuse them 24/7 and however frustrating it gets remember it’s not forever . Also screen time is brilliant for those times you just need ten minutes to think straight. Push the guilt aside, load them up with snacks and stick a film on to keep them entertained, it won’t hurt them
