Penny makes some woodland fairy folk for her local community to find when out on walks. Let’s see what she did…
What did you do?
We have set up a local group, for our friends initially.
We made some woodland fairy folk and doors.
We have chosen a route we use on our daily walk and hidden 10 things for friends, or anyone really, to spot whilst out walking.
- We made fairy doors from lolly sticks, we stuck 6 sticks together with one diagonal stick and one-half stick at the top and bottom (see picture).
- We decorated them with pens or natural items.
- We also used pieces of wood and drew on them.
- We used wooden pegs to make our fairy folk. But a stick works well also.
- We made a hole for arm and decorated with natural items.
Any tips for others doing this?
If you fancy having a go at making your own forest friend here are some ideas.
**Disclaimer please think about checking before picking anything. Where ever possible collect sticks and leaves from the ground. And wash your hands as some plants can be dangerous. **
We made a ‘hat’ from a sycamore leaf. Used grass to tie on a fern leaf. Plantain made some ‘eyes’ and the stalks are good to use to tie things on. You could use a potatoes peeler or penknife to take a piece of bark off to draw a face. We like to try and name all the leaves and plants we use.
