Delaney, from Essex, sent in this great family memory board idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

When I saw a broken mirror in a pine frame getting ready to go into a skip I knew it had to be rescued… I carefully removed the mirror kept the frame.

Not knowing what to do with it, it stood in my kitchen hallway for months untill we we had to replace a broken fence panels.. not willing to throw the old fence away I knew I could transform it into something.

I decided to make a memory board. I painted the pine frame (and distressed it afterwards to give it an aged look) and the fence panels.

I did wonder how I would connect the panels to the frames nails where either to short or long…. Any strong wood glue! This helped stick the panels on.

I then transfer pictures on to the frame using a reverse technique (printing on paper in reverse and sticking it picture side down let it dry, then spray water to dampen the picture and remove the paper from the back) As I did with the lettering..(I’m very proud of that actually) I love how it gave an aged look.

I love crafting making things from either next to nothing or something that would normally be thrown away, and creating something unique.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I have loads of ideas mulling over on my head, possibly a recycled bird feeder made from a milk carton.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

As hard as it sounds try and steer them away from technology, give them a challenge, what can you turn this cardboard box into? How many uses are there for this plastic cup?

What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?

We love playing Monopoly. My eldest has a really fun card game called unstable unicorns that we also love to play.

What are your children’s favourite books?

All the Roald Dahl books, I still enjoy reading them with my youngest.

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

Marble run, I love this connecting all the pieces together to make a perfect marble run.
