Jen, from New Forest, and her son made their own allergy-free cupcakes. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
My four year old designed this activity. He wanted to open a cupcake shop where he could serve everyone. He wanted multi-coloured cake, fruit and sprinkles. As both my boys have allergies, we have to be careful. It’s just wonderful fulfilling the child-led play.
Do you have any other projects planned?
So many. I already have over 100 activities. Coming up, I will try oobleck, rainbow and foam clay.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I am a primary school teacher with two boys. A four year old preschooler and a 19 month old. I run a play ideas account which I started when lockdown began in order to collate and share play. I knew this time was going to be long and tough. I felt it, so I knew others would too. If I could share my play, and it helped one mum, how amazing would that be.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
My husband is a key worker, so he is busy. Lockdown has provided me with the opportunity to bring together my creative ability and imagination to create invitations to play for my little ones. My Instagram is full of everything we have done since lockdown began, the bits that worked, and the ones that didn’t!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Create a weekly timetable of activities. You don’t need to stick to it but it is there for when you need something. I do mine every Friday night and post it on @everydayisaplayday
Has being part of our community helped you?
All I have wanted to do on this journey is share and help other mums and children to enjoy this time as much as possible. This community has been great for idea-sharing.
