Shilpa, from Bangalore, India, talks to us about directionality. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

Pre-reading skills for emergent readers.

Directionality is an important concept to be introduced for young children and future readers.

Learning to read from left to right, top to bottom is a pre-reading skill important to include for growing up years.

Simple and easy tasks, such as placing you play items from left to right, or pasting few items along the dotted lines or running fingers along lines as you read to your kid can establish this progression.

Shlok is now 2 years 8 months old and a very curious child. We introduced this concept at home with few colourful thermocol balls and also some items from the kitchen.

This was easy, fun and good for his eye hand coordination skills too.

😊

Do try this.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Reusing and Recycling of waste items from our households to make beautiful planters.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

These are challenging times and our kids are most affected souls who need to be given special attention and our time to help to make them emotionally and spiritually strong.

During these house bound times, we need to engage them more creatively and productively so that the current prevalent negative vibes do not adversely affect their little souls.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

1. Spend more time with your kids.
2. Speak to them, make them aware of the current pandemic situation but do not scare them.
3. Make them aware and teach them how to face these difficult times with positivity.
4. Indulge them in productive art and craftwork which will help in enhancing their creative skills.
5. Teach them gardening which is the best way to connect with nature and distract them.
