Alison, from Padiham, sent in this dinosaur-themed craft idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
Our reading corner was very basic with just a cushion and bookshelf, I wanted to make it more interesting, my 2-year-old son is obsessed with dinosaurs, so I went with the dinosaur theme.
I wanted to make sure it had a foliage-like corner with leaves to make it more like a hideaway for him. I got a camouflage net to use as the backdrop for part of it then just added leaves and vines.
Once I’d done this I started to draw the dinosaurs on paper and then stick them to the wall.
Do you have any other projects planned?
I may add some more dinosaurs to the wall yet.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I’m Alison. Myself and my husband Lee have one child, Ezra who is two years old. We live in Lancashire, England.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
We have ups and downs, My husband is a keyworker so it’s been me and Ezra a lot of the time. I found it hard at first as our daily routine of me working full time and Ezra being at the childminders was no more. Ezra found it difficult not being with other children like he’s used to. As time’s gone on we’ve adjusted, sometimes we have very productive days and get stuck in with craft activities other days we just chill and have a lazy day. But this is time I wouldn’t normally get with him. I only had a few months off for maternity leave with Ezra so felt I did miss out on the later months when he was developing more and doing more, I kind of feel I’ve got those months I’ve missed out on he amazes me every day with how he’s learning so much. I’m still off work as being a hairdresser we’ve had to remain closed longer, I’m making the most of these last few weeks now.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Just enjoy being with them, its time with them we wouldn’t get. Be childlike – get on their level, be silly, build forts. We need to remember when this is over, we stayed together we had fun with our children to remind them in a world gone mad there is still a rainbow after the storm.
Has being part of our community helped you?
It’s wonderful for ideas and tips to keep the kids entertained, and knowing it’s not just myself that has off days.
