Emily, from Stafford, UK, gets us digging for treasure!
What did you do?
My little boy loves any opportunity for posting things! It could be with an activity I’ve set up at home even post stones in grids or between posts when we are out and about.
So I combined posting with the excitement of hunting for treasure!
To set up:
-I filled a tray half full with sand. You don’t have to use sand those use anything you have at home- lentils, rice or flour etc.
-I then added a selection of different coins for our treasure. You could use gems, counters, beads, buttons anything! Something that might not seem like treasure or exciting to is definitely will be to your little ones!
-I added a spade for digging and a money box for posting the coins into. If you don’t have a money box then you could make a slot in a cardboard box or other plastic container. Formula milk tubs work really well as posting tubs!
And that’s it! All ready for your little once to find the hidden treasures. It was so simple to set up and I used things that we had at home.
My little boy loved the activity and it kept him occupied for quite a while!
You might want to put a sheet down to protect your floor, have a dustpan brush handy or even take it outside as some of the tray contents with definitely end up on the floor!
Do you have any other projects planned?
I have so many ideas that I would like to try but I think my next one will probably be an enhancement to our water play. My little boy has loved our water play activities recently.

How are you finding being housebound so far?
I had my youngest boy two weeks before lockdown so it has been really strange that we haven’t been able to introduce him properly to our family and friends. We have been enjoying our time as a 4 and have been keeping ourselves busy at home and by going out on walks.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Go outside for a walk! Being outside in the fresh air can really help.
Don’t stress about the little things and wanting everything to be in it’s place. Everyday is different and has its own challenges and things can wait and be tackled another day.
Has this website and community helped you?
I love that there is such a wide range of ideas and activities all in one place.
