Sarah, from Surrey, England, sent in this counting activity. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
This was a great counting play idea which was suggested by our Nursery as an activity to keep our little ones entertained during Lockdown.
It is a very simple set up and all you need is some paper cupcake cases with numbers written inside. We used a baking tray to put them on but any tray will be fine. We then had a small bowl of cereal – Shreddies in our case.
The aim is for the child to count out the number of cereal into the relevant cup cases.
My three year old liked this activity and could recognise some of the numbers when asked and could count out some of the numbers. It did get bored quite quickly and wanted to eat the cereal.
I went back to this a couple of weeks later and I swapped the cereal with big pebbles and it worked well as he didn’t keep eating them!
Do you have any other projects planned?
We are currently enjoying playing with our Mud Kitchen and plan to do some fun play activities with it using sand, coloured rice and mud.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I’m Sarah and have two little boys – a three year old and a seven month old baby. We live in Surrey in England and we enjoy doing lots of simple and cheap play. We like messy play, sensory play and water play. I share all my play ideas on my Instagram page @playideasmummy.
How are you finding being housebound so far?
Lockdown has led to a much slower pace of life which has been lovely. We also have lots more time with Daddy as he is Working from Home.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Be kind to yourself and take each day at a time. This is a unique situation that we find ourselves in so we just have to do what we can to get through it.
Has this website and community helped you?
The website is full of wonderful ideas and inspiration to help keep everyone entertained. It’s such a great resource.
