Katie, from Merrow, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
We made a bumble bee for my mum’s birthday. We went to the woods to collect the sticks (for the body). We then went to the range to get a big square of cardboard, some black, yellow, white paint and a glue gun. We then popped into the local supermarket and brought a box of shreddies (for the wings).
Step 1: Draw the bumble bee template.
Step 2: Line the sticks on the body to see where or how you want them to go and to see if you need to cut some down.
Step 3: Glue down all of your sticks with your glue gun.
Step 4: line the shreddies up where you want them for the wings.
Step 5: Glue down all of the shreddies (be careful as some shreddies will break)
Step 6: Paint your bumble bee
Step 7: Cut out some white and black card for the eyes or stick down goggly eyes.
Step 8: Glue down black pipe cleaners for the mouth and the antenna’s.
Final step: ENJOY YOUR BUMBLE BEE
The sticks really worked but we’re quite tough to cut down to the right size, especially when the body got smaller. The shreddies were really tough as they are quite fragile so they broke easily, so you could find something else that might work instead.
Do you have any other projects planned?
I’m not to sure yet. We might do our handprints.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Katie, I’m from Surrey in England.
I have 1 child called Zachary who is 2 and half
How are you finding being housebound so far?
Being housebound with kids is tough. Having a garden helps and going out for walks/finding projects to make helps time go by. It’s a lot easier now as we can go out and about to the shops.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Luckily I only have 1 child, but my advice would be to get out as much as you can
Has being part of our community helped you?
It’s gives you a lot of new ideas that you could do with your children.
