Parent, Emily, wanted to have a bespoke t-shirt made with her children’s hand-print painted on but did not know how to solve it, then came up with this idea, to use bleach and shadow board the hand in question to come up with this unique t-shirt.
IMPORTANT: Keep children away from the bleach, in line with guidance on the bottle.
What did you do? This project tells how and what it takes to put a personalised hand print on a t-shirt
What you will need:
- Bleach,
- black t-shirt,
- scissors,
- a paint brush,
- card or cardboard,
- gloves
- spray bottle (optional)
Instructions:
Firstly use some card to draw around your child or children’s hand. Once you’ve done this cut out the hand print.
Place the cut out hand print on the the t-shirt. Use some cardboard and place it in-between the front and the back of the t-shirt to stop the colour/bleach going right through to the back of the t-shirt.
Putting on gloves dip the paint brush in the beach and use the paint brush to draw around the hand print you’ve cut out. Push down on the cardboard to help prevent the bleach running. You could also use a spray bottle to make cool splashing effects, you could also use hands to make heart shapes, butterflies and lots of other fun ideas.
I found that it could get messy so I’d recommend doing this outside as the fumes can also be strong. Also trying to get a toddler to keep still long enough to draw around their hands is a challenge in itself.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Emily. I have a daughter, Lucy, she’s 2 years old in June. We are from the UK and we are finding the lock down very fun. We are getting to be creative, wild and making up a new adventure everyday. I will be training to be a teacher in September so happy I’m getting to spend time with Lucy before the madness starts.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
My tips would be to keep things exciting, even using the washing machine can be a crazy adventure of odd socks going on an adventure to find its friend.
