Role play is such an important part of any child’s development and here we have a little girl who is living the dream of having her own salon. What a wonderful activity that her mummy has put a tremendous amount of effort into. Let’s see how it’s done….
Describe activity:
I created this beauty salon for my 4-year-old daughter, Skye, who loves all things girly such as painting nails and putting on make-up. The activity also helped with her fine motor skills and practiced the use of scissors.
Skye is an only child so is finding lockdown very difficult without having any other children to play with so I am constantly looking for new ideas to keep her busy and away from the iPad. She is very creative so this worked really well for her, she loved picking out the different coloured nail varnishes and was excited to be cutting the hair which then led to her wanting to cut mine, I had to draw the line there ha-ha.
To complete this activity you will need:
- pieces of cardboard
- paper/pens
- wool/string
- children’s nail varnishes (as they are less likely to stain)
- children’s scissors
- PVA glue
How to:
- step 1: cut out the shape of a head and shoulders from cardboard and 2 stands to stand it up in, then draw on a face and decorate.
- step 2: cut some strands of wool and glue them to the top of the head.
- step 3: draw round both of your hands and cut them out, then draw on the nails.
*always supervise young children with scissors*
