Sadie, from Essex, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
We covered the covered thr balcony glass in cardboard for privacy, we then used the backs of the sofas as base for the flooring.
We then got a spare duvet and placed that ontop.
We then use a king size duvet and attached it to the sides of the balcony and also the balcony above us flooring. To make a ‘ roof’, also for privacy. Know one around us was able to see us .
The Boys then got their duvets and pillows off their beds and I also got them off of mine.
We moved the TV from the my bedroom to in front of the door way.
We got lots of snacks, drinks and got our pj’s on.
We all found out comfy places and snuggled down to watch the movie..
It was amazing!! A fantastic memory. The kids loved it.
I think the only downfal was that my partner is over 6ft..
So his long legs got a little squashed..
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
Our names are Sadie and phill.
We have two wonderful boys who are aged 6 and 3.
Our boys live to be outside, climbing trees, riding their bikes and general explorers. Being at home isn’t something they enjoy as unfortunately we don’t have a garden.. Having a balcony has been so helpful though and we’ve definitely realised that we can use it for fun things.. We kept seeing people were sleeping in their gardens, so we decided to camp out on the balcony.
Due to us both still working, partner working weekdays and I work weekends. We haven’t had much free time to do fun activities like this. So I booked the weekend off ( waking up at 3am on the balcony wouldn’t have been the best idea)… The boys absolutely loved it. ( so did we secretly and all of us are looking forward to doing it again)..
We live in England, Essex!.. Thankfully the weather was lovely for us to be able to do it..
How are you finding being housebound so far?
It has it challenges.. But we’ve made use of everything we have..
We’ve done lots of baking, woodland walks, bike rides.
And of course, lots of use of the balcony. From having picnics out there, crafts, and also sleepovers.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Try and make the best memories.
Dont be hard on yourself on the tough days..
Dont look at people’s post ( including this one) and feel bad if you haven’t done exciting things.. Everyone has their own struggles and everyone is getting through this in their own ways..
Everyone is doing their best..
Has being part of our community helped you?
Been very helpful with getting ideas for the kids.
Not only for during lockdown. But it’s also ideas that we will continue on…
