Nicole, from Central Qld coast Australia, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
Alphabet pebbles Is an activity for kids which is not only educational but lots of fun! They can use them in small parts play, practice spelling their name or match them with flash cards… the options are endless.
We went for a walk and found some pebbles that were quite flat and round. Then I took a paint pen (in our case white as our pebbles are black) and wrote a letter on each pebble. I then let them dry.
And that’s it!! Easy Peasy!!
We also did a set of numbers too.
Make sure you use a bright colour that will clearly stand out on you pebble!
A paint pen worked well and the surface of the pebbles was very smooth.
Do you have any other projects planned?
My next project is stemming on to small parts play and making some of our own.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
My name is Nicole and I’m mum to 3 littlies under 4 on the central Queensland coast Australia. During the carona virus pandemic we spent many weeks at home keeping busy. I had to come up with lots of ways to keep my kids entertained so I created an Instagram page called @happycreativekids to share our adventures and activities!
How are you finding being housebound so far?
It was exhausting at first but routine is key! And by incorporating 1 activity per day within our routine we managed to find a balance of quality time vs independent play that met everyone’s needs. Now that the kids are back doing other activities and daycare/kindy a few days per week we have relaxed back to only a few creative sessions per week but we still love it!
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Keep it simple. Kids don’t need the most intricate of activities. Use what you have, allow them to use their imagination. Use cereal boxes, milk cartons, old buttons it doesn’t need to be fancy!
Has being part of our community helped you?
I think that it is an inspirational platform to create your own ideas. For example my alphabet pebbles could be colour matching our if you are a great drawer you could draw images on some to match.
Other people’s ideas can inspire your own creations!
