Lauren, from Portsmouth in the UK sent in this great mini clothes line activity. Let’s take a look at it…
What did you do?
To make the mini clothesline you will need something to use as the “clothesline”. A piece of strong string or small rope would be perfect for this.
We use socks to hang on their mini clothesline of all different colours and patterns. Lastly wooden pegs something most of us already have at home.
You can put it up anywhere in your home we used a door handle to secure ours.
We loved this activity because firstly my little boy absolutely loves helping me with day to day tasks.
It’s great to encourage role play, opportunities for speech, you can match the different socks together, helps with fine motor skills and by using the pegs it can improve their pincer grasp.
Do you have any other projects planned?
I don’t have a specific next project idea but I always try to think of an activity daily where I can use household objects to create something new for them to try.

Do you have any tips for other parents?
My best tips would be…
Not everyday will be perfect and that’s okay!
Try your best, take a break if you can, follow their lead during playtime and stock up on arts & crafts.
Sometimes they won’t like the activity you’ve set out so don’t be disappointed and bring it out another day.
What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?
We love the orchard toys games.
Our favourites are the post box game and the animal matching games.
We also love the monkey business game from ELC.
What are your children’s favourite books?
My toddler’s favourite books are the Peppa Pig books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Gruffalo and Don’t Wake the Bear Hare.
What toys would you recommend to other parents?
Wooden puzzles, orchard toy games, matching games, water play table, tea set, animals, play food and mega blocks.
Has this website and community helped you?
I think it’s fantastic that it’s a website where all parents/guardians can together place their ideas onto one platform. There are some days where inspiration is lacking and you feel like you’re running out of ideas so this is great!
