Brittany, from the United States, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

This is a fun and cute activity that is great for working on counting and fine motor skills.

Supplies: cardboard, pinecones, marker, box cutter (or scissors), tongs (optional)

Directions: 1. Draw hedgehogs on the piece of cardboard.
2. Number the hedgehogs.
3. Cut a square piece out of each hedgehog (this allows for the pinecones to stay in place when they are placed on the hedgehogs).
4. Prop up the piece of cardboard (I used cups. You could skip this step if you used a cardboard box instead of a flat piece of cardboard like I did).
5. Have child use the tongs to place the pinecones onto the hedgehogs. Encourage the child to count as they place each pinecone on the cardboard.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Brittany and I am from the United States. I am a proud mom of two boys (2 years and 7 months old). I have worked as a recreational therapist and a nanny and am now a stay at home mom. I recently started a children’s activity Instagram account called CraftMonsterz which is named after my 2 year old’s obsession with monsters.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It was a big change at first but we eventually fell into a new routine. It has definitely brought out my own creativity and we have tried a lot of activities that we would have never tried if we weren’t quarantined at home (check out our Instagram CraftMonsterz).

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Try your best to enjoy this time with your kids and don’t be too hard on yourself. If you are having a bad day, just remember that tomorrow is a new day and a clean slate.
