Lynne, from Scotland, made this great superhero escape room for her 4-year-old son. Let’s take a look…
You will need:
- Tuff tray
- Chalk pens
- Play-doh
- Foaming soap
- Sand tray (Tesco!)
- Pipe cleaners
- Duplo bricks
- Water beads
- Plastic cups
Figures/tools can be the parent/carer’s choice. I used PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, and Spider-Man figures.
Frozen toys:
- Prepare the night before. Put the toy in a plastic cup (or a balloon if it’s small enough) and fill about three-quarters full with water.
- Leave in the freezer overnight.
- Remove the cup or balloon.
Snow:
- Spray some foaming soap in the tray.
- Hide the figures in it.
Lava:
- Hide the figures in play-doh and put them back in the tub!
Tied up:
- Wrap a pipe cleaner around the figure! String or wool would work too.
Jail:
- Use bricks to build a “jail” for one or two figures.
Water:
- Prepare water beads overnight. Pour some into a tub filled with water (they will get bigger the longer they’re in the water).
- In the morning, hide the figures in them!
Do you have any tips for other parents that are often housebound?
I tend to just go with what my little boy likes- he leads the learning most of the time.
Tell us a bit about yourself…

How have you found being in lockdown?
Challenging to start with but we’re settled in a routine of sorts now!
