Lynne, from Scotland, made this great superhero escape room for her 4-year-old son. Let’s take a look…

You will need:

  • Tuff tray
  • Chalk pens
  • Play-doh
  • Foaming soap
  • Sand tray (Tesco!)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Duplo bricks
  • Water beads
  • Plastic cups

Figures/tools can be the parent/carer’s choice. I used PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, and Spider-Man figures.

Frozen toys:

  1. Prepare the night before. Put the toy in a plastic cup (or a balloon if it’s small enough) and fill about three-quarters full with water.
  2. Leave in the freezer overnight.
  3. Remove the cup or balloon.

Snow:

  1. Spray some foaming soap in the tray.
  2. Hide the figures in it.

Lava:

  1. Hide the figures in play-doh and put them back in the tub!

Tied up:

  1. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the figure! String or wool would work too.

Jail:

  1. Use bricks to build a “jail” for one or two figures.

Water:

  1. Prepare water beads overnight. Pour some into a tub filled with water (they will get bigger the longer they’re in the water).
  2. In the morning, hide the figures in them!

Do you have any tips for other parents that are often housebound?

I tend to just go with what my little boy likes- he leads the learning most of the time.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

How have you found being in lockdown?

Challenging to start with but we’re settled in a routine of sorts now!
