Alyssa, from Ontario, Canada, sent in this great cloud dough play idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you make?

We made 2 ingredient cloud dough creations.

We were making cloud dough on the day we found our tadpoles so this activity was put aside for a day! ⁣

BUT…I’ve seen a bunch of Moms making cloud dough and I always thought to myself that it would be just like playdough, which really didn’t tickle my fancy because we have enough of that. But let me tell you…it is NOT just playdough. It really feels like clouds! Or what I imagine clouds would feel like! ⁣

And the best part? It took 2 minutes to make because there are only two ingredients.

Here is the recipe :⁣

2 cups cornstarch ⁣(also known as cornflour)
1 cup yummy smelling conditioner

Mix it together with a spatula and then kneed it with your hands until it’s smooth and “cloud-like”⁣.

I set out some pom-poms, pipe cleaner, peg dolls, princess dolls, heart and flower shaped cut outs, and google eyes for the girls to use their imagination! And, boy, did it go wild! They created a “jungle” from which the princesses and peg dolls had to escape! Better than I could of dreamed up! ⁣

Overall, I highly recommend this recipe and making cloud dough for your little one to enjoy! ⁣

Disclaimer: **this recipe is NOT taste safe**

I love that the girls were involved in the entire process. From making the dough to playing with it. The sensory play was a highlight!

I love how open-ended this activity was! I set out some crafting supplies and let the girls’ imaginations go to work!

Do you have any other projects planned?

Our next project is “Roll a Paper Bag Creation”.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

Hello! My name is Alyssa. I am a middle school teacher from Ontario and I have three little girls who are 5, 3, and one years old! I started an instagram account as a way to share my activity ideas I was doing with my girls and also to inspire and help other mamas who were feeling the effects of lockdown. Since then, this account has turned into so much more. A community of moms. An outlet. A safe place . I’m so thankful for this opportunity!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

When housebound with kids, my go-to a is a good country song and some wine 😉 haha. But all kidding aside, we try to have a structure and routine to everyday so Mama doesn’t go insane. Here is what ours looks like :
Breakfast invitation (the idea came from Days with Grey, but we have adapted to our own activities whether they are for learning or just for fun)
Have breakfast
Get dressed
Reading
Baby goes for a nap and older two watch a show
Family walk (bike or scooters too)
Late morning craft
Lunch
Baking
Baby naps and older two do a learning activity
Quiet time
Outing (errand or we’ve finally to splash pads since they’ve opened now)
Dinner
Bath
Bedtime routine

What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?

The girls are just getting to the age where they’re able to play board games. Currently are two family favourites are Sequence for Kids and Candy Land. The girls are only 5 and 3 and are completely able to play these two independently, which makes it fun!

What are your children’s favourite books?

My children are obsessed with the Berenstein Bear and Strawberry Shortcake books, but currently they think “The Book with not Pictures” by B.J. Novak is HILARIOUS.

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

For my daughters birthday, we just received a wobble board from the grandparents and it’s a huge hit. It’s a Montessori-type toy, but it’s so open-ended and their imaginations shine through. Whether they use it as a slide, teeter totter, bridge, a slide for their stuffies or the bridge that Billy Goat Gruff hides under, it allows them to engage with each other and it truly brings about the very definition of being a kid!
