Sarah, from the UK, sent in this fishy phonics game. Lets take a look…
What did you do?
A fun interactive game that ca be adapted to all ages!
Simply cut out fish shaped paper, write the words (or it could be numbers or letters) on the fish… add a paper clip and your good to go (If you haven’t got a magnetic fishing rod you can use a magnet on some string). There are a few different ways to play: let’s children explore freely and encourage reading, ask them to find a certain word or use it as a turn taking game.
This is a quick and simple phonics game to set us that encourages children to blend words to develop their reading skills.
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
I have been an early years teacher and leader for 10 years and have my own little 4 year old at home.

How are you finding being housebound so far?
We’ve had our ups and downs (like anyone I guess) from a work/education side…. It’s been a slight win win for me as I have been able to support my nursery children and my own child at home buy creative simple learning activities which I play with my little one and then share them with my class so they can have a go at home.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
I think everyone’s mental health is the most important thing… if you haven’t done all the work set by school/nursery don’t beat yourself up…. as a teacher myself I would much prefer my families were happy and healthy! Be kind to yourself… it’s a crazy work out there right now!
Has this website and community helped you?
It’s a fab resource to support people in finding ideas to keep children busy!
