Becky, from UK, sent in this fun sunken treasure activity. Let’s take a look…
For this activity you will need:
Foil
A selection of different coins (you’ll find you’ll need lots!)
a container of water with a enough water to sink your boats (the bath, sink or a storage box are fine)
How to play:
Get your children to make their own ships out of foil
Use the ‘treasure’ to sink the ships to the bottom of the ocean (aka water-tray).
How does it support your child’s learning?
fine manipulation
counting 1:1 correspondence
coin recognition
skip counting counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s etc.
hand-eye coordination
Please supervise your child at all times whilst doing this activity
We were lucky enough to have a huge bag of change because it is surprisingly hard to sink the ships! You’ll need a fair amount of treasure! The children really loved this activity and once I’d modelled making a boat with the foil they were great at making their own!
Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…
Hi My name is Becky! I’m a Primary school teacher currently working with children aged 4-5 years old in the UK. I’ve got 3 kids of my own ages 16, 12 and 2.
@adventurous_eyfs
How are you finding being housebound so far?
It’s been great to spend time with the kids but tiring too! Between a toddler and my son who has ADHD/ASC it’s been hard work! Back at work now with some of my class though and it’s made me realise what a precious time lockdown has been.
Do you have any tips for other parents?
Don’t compare what you’re doing with other people. Do what makes you and your kids happy! Your kids need you so your emotional health and well-being is very important, try and squeeze in some ‘me’ time if you can.
Has this website and community helped you?
I love that there are ideas for families to do during lockdown all in one place!
